Free Time Is Not Wasted Time
We have more and more free time and less and less idea what to do with the guilt that comes with it. We were taught to measure hours by what they produce, so when rest arrives the same alarm keeps ringing: if you're not producing, you're wasting your time. Automation makes the paradox worse — it gives us more leisure than our culture has taught us to receive without remorse.
But wasting time and using it are different things. Wasting time is letting the hours pass without them leaving you anything. Using it is coming out of them as, even if only slightly, a better version of yourself: calmer, less alone, with something to tell. The right question was never "did I produce something?", but "did this leave me something?".
Almost no digital place is designed for leisure to feel welcome — most of them live off you continuing to feel that guilt, because it keeps you looking at the screen. A good third place does the opposite: it lets the afternoon end without remorse. That's the bet behind KobiiCraft. Playing for a while and leaving knowing that the afternoon wasn't lost: it was used.
